Col around Europe
My travels around Europe 2010/2011

Awoke this morning to find it snowing heavily, laying 10cm deep and the snow ploughs busy clearing the roads and spreading salt. We decided to have a relaxing day. Peter rang later to say the football match had been postponed because of the weather so we had a relaxing evening too. A movie and a shot or two of Jamesons, for medicinal purposes. I have it on good authority that a drop of the amber nectar stops the blood from freezing up, a kind of human anti-freeze. Tomorrow we go to our next destination Bratislava, then I go home to Budapest and get organised for Christmas. It's been a great trip!

Again it is bitterly cold though no longer snowing. After further sightseeing in town we returned to the restaurant we were in last night for our evening meal. Hannas recognised us immediately and after showing us to our table informed us that he still had a headache from this morning, the result of a prolonged hangover. He will be taking it easy tonight he said, so will we, we informed him. Alas, poor Hannas had another late night, six of his friends were in and we were invited to join them, which we did. One of the guys, Fritz, was a laugh a minute. His friend Peter asked us if we would like to join them tomorrow evening to watch a Vienna football match, saying it would be cold but fun. We said we would. Another pleasant evening was had by all and we retired to the camper at 3.30am. leaving poor Hannas with another potential hangover!

We had a look in town today, everywhere the Christmas decorations are going up, brightening up the cityscape, particularly in the evenings. Speaking of the evening, we went to a Viennese restaurant where we had a really good meal in the company of the local populace, not a tourist in sight. After dinner the proprietor joined us at our table, bringing three glasses of schnapps with him. After showing us pictures of his family and learning that I now resided in Budapest he said cheers in hungarian and proceeded to speak the language. After explaining that my hungarian was rudimentary he reverted back to english. The restaurant normally closes at 11pm but we were all having such a good time that it was 1.30am before we left. Poor Hannas the proprietor was somewhat drunk, though happy,a good night.
